How can it be known when to stop testing?

This can be difficult to determine. Many modern software applications are so complex, and run in such an interdependent environment, that complete testing can never be done. Common factors in deciding when to stop are:

* Deadlines (release deadlines, testing deadlines, etc.)
* Test cases completed with certain percentage passed
* Test budget depleted
* Coverage of code/functionality/requirements reaches a specified point
* Bug rate falls below a certain level
* Beta or alpha testing period ends

Internal Software Prediction Metrics Survey

Hi,

My name is Ali and I am a student at Bournemouth University in England. I am currently trying to asses the application and use of internal software prediction metrics in the decision to stop testing software for my final Advanced Computing masters project.

To do this I am conducting an industry-wide investigative survey. As a thank you for your help, the first 50 valid respondents will receive UKŁ0.50p to their PayPal accounts. Additionally, you will also receive a free PDF version of the final paper entitled “The Metrics –
An Industrial Evaluation of the Relevance and Application of Internal Software Prediction Metrics in Determining when to Stop Testing”. Although you may not be able to answer some of the questions in detail, your best estimate will be gratefully received. There may be a problem with the link, if that is the case, then please copy and paste the link into your browser.

Thank you for helping me with this important project and please feel free to pass this survey along to anyone you may feel might benefit from this paper / who might wish to participate in this research.

There is no personal risk to your participation and I would be more than happy to answer any questions or concerns you might have, thank you for your time.

Best regards,

Ali
